Dems Shun TN US Senate Primary Winner

There was a day when Democrats were conservative in the South.  In fact, if you were conservative and wanted to win an election, you ran as a Democrat.  Those days are long gone.  Just ask US Senate Candidate Mark Clayton of Tennessee.  This past Thursday, Clayton won the primary, but as they used to say on Mission Impossible, his actions are being disavowed.

Here’s the news release from Tennessee’s Democratic party, which says, ”Many Democrats in Tennessee knew nothing about any of the candidates in the race, so they voted for the person at the top of the ticket.”  It doesn’t sound like party leaders have much respect for the rank and file.  After all, Clayton received almost twice as many votes as his closest competitor.  Maybe they should have explained it this way — Clayton won because his positions resonated with the grassroots.

The news release concludes, “Mark Clayton is associated with a known hate group in Washington, DC.”  The “so-called” hate group has been identified as Public Advocate of the United States, which it turns out, merely supports traditional marriage and pro-life issues.

Adolph Hitler once said that if you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it.  That is certainly true of the often-repeated lie that opposition to gay marriage is hatred of gays.  Liberals don’t seem to get it that supporting an alternative to something that’s self-destructive to people, really is an act of love.  As Mark Clayton responded to the Tennessean about how the Democratic Party was shutting him out, “But that’s not the way I deal with my political opponents. I have good friends who are liberals.”
