Officials at the school district that oversees Wagoner High School in Oklahoma promise they will be more careful next time.  That’s because some parents were ticked off that a DVD comparing abortion to the Holocaust was distributed on school property.  Oh well, so much for academic freedom.

180, as the film is known is the brainchild of Ray Comfort, who co-hosts the award winning TV show — The Way of the Master — with actor Kirk Cameron.  Comfort is also the author of more than 70 books.

One upset parent, Marty Angus, described his step-daughter’s experience to the local FOX-TV affiliate, KOKI, channel 23, “She said that she had seen a DVD in school that basically said that if you have an abortion then you are no better than the Nazis and you will go to hell.”  The girl had responded to a note on her locker, offering the free video.  Angus vented some more, "I thought it was graphic and a clear violation between church and state and it was just awful to be shown to a high school student.”

Comfort says they’re putting words into his mouth.  “That’s just not true. Millions have already freely watched it on 180movie.com and you will see that nowhere do we say that you will go to hell if you have an abortion.”

Probably no one can speak better to the horrors of the Holocaust than a Jew, which Comfort is by birth.  His movie opens with 14 people, mostly college students, not knowing the identity of Adolph Hitler.  Interestingly, the Jewish Museum in Washington recommends the most appropriate age to learn about the Holocaust is 11 years-old.  Could it be the people in the movie were the victims of censorship?

Meanwhile, Comfort is doing his best to wake kids up.  He reports giving away over 14 thousand DVDs outside of high schools, including the ones in Beverly Hills and Hollywood, and more than 180 thousand at 100 of the nation’s top universities.  And get this — that’s in one day.

So, why does he call the movie 180?  It’s because of the 180-degree change of heart about abortion that thousands have had after watching the film.
