Don't you love how the Lord speaks to you right where you are? Don't
you love how the Lord can use any means necessary to confirm something
He's already whispered in your heart over and over? Don't you love how patient and gentle He is with His sometimes very
dumb and stubborn sheep? From the first year God led us to homeschool
our children I have struggled over how to juggle serving in the local
church "using my gifts" to build up the body of Christ and
serving/ministering to my husband, children and neighbors...(did I
already mention I homeschool?) We have four children, one will be
graduating in June! I spent many years involved in "ministry" outside
of my home, in my church and all the while still trying to keep up with
homeschoolng the children the Lord has entrusted to us. God has gently
and lovingly whispered in my heart..."this is not your season"..."your
going to burn out!" "There is nothing more important than what you are
doing at home"...and I would listen and think OK Lord I believe that
and I know you are right..BUT, what about using my gifts to edify the
body, to be connected in my local assembly? Before I knew it I was back
in another ministry and my home and schooling suffered.
Well,
this year God has really been pressing me about this thing! A verse he
used to get my attention back in the early part of the summer was the
verse that is in the title of my blog..Psalm 37:3-5 Trust in the
Lord, and do good;dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of
your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will
bring it to pass.
A dear friend of mine helped me walk through this
struggle. A few weeks back on the phone, she let me voice what I had
been struggling with for so long. It's not do either/or, it's seasons
of life, having the struggle is alright, the desire is a good desire, a
godly desire, a right desire...This verse has come alive in my heart
over the past year...everywhere I turn this verse appears. He is so
patient with me...This past summer I had been struggling and praying
about a ministry I was involved in a "BIG" ministry and low and behold
as I was cleaning out files in my school room the Lord conveniently
allowed a devotion I wrote seven years ago based on this very verse to
fall out. It was a devotion titled The grass is greener. So, I
obediently pulled out of that ministry and now am a prayer member on
the team. I teach a ladies class which takes much time, energy and
effort...I have been praying about this all year and I now know the
answer. After much prayer over the past several weeks God spoke again,
this time through a book I am reading (for the second time!) "Seven
Tools to Help Cultivate Your Child's Potential" Zan Tyler. It was such
a pretty day I decided to take the girls and some friends to the park
and I always take a book along to get in a little reading. As
I was reading one of the first pages, this verse jumped off the page at
me and I laughed outloud at the lengths the Lord will go to answer my
prayers, even if I am too dumb to see it the first, second, third,
100th time! I wrote todays date beside the verse and praised Him right
where I sat. The grass truly is greener here...I have tried to dwell in
other lands and have seen that the land He has so graciously given me
to dwell in for this season is rich, sweet and delightful. So, you
homeschool Mom's if you ever wonder if the grass is a little greener
doing "BIG" ministry Just remember You are already there! TRUST, DWELL,
FEED, DELIGHT, COMMIT and He will bring it to pass. Trust, dwell, feed, delight, commit...and He
will bring it to pass, bring what to pass? The desires of your
heart..which if we will learn to trust, dwell, feed, delight and commit
He will change the desires of our heart to match His heart's desire for
us.
