I Samuel 3:1-3 Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD before
Eli. And word from the LORD was rare in those days, visions were
infrequent. 1 Samuel 3:2 It happened at that time as Eli was lying
down in his place (now his eyesight had begun to grow dim {and} he
could not see {well),} 1 Samuel 3:3 and the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God {was,}
Samuel
was lying down in the temple of the LORD where the ark of God was. The
ark of God represented the Lord's very presence to the people of
Israel. Inside the ark was God's law, His word to His people. Samuel
was lying down near the word and presence of the LORD!
Do you
make it a habit to stay close to Him and His word? Do you choose to be
in the very presence of God? Is His word a lamp unto your feet and a
light unto your path?
If I am honest, most nights when I lay
down in "my place", I like Eli have dim eyesight and dull ears to the
presence and word of God. The late night news tunes Him out. Oh, how I
desire to have a heart like Samuel's, to lay down in the presence of
the LORD with His word near me. Instead of watching the late night
news, why not turn off the t.v. altogether and meditate on God's word,
listening for His voice, desiring to be in His presence.
